Alan Rickman's last film is a slow, pretty love story that is less than the sum of its parts. We never really learn what makes the lovers tick, let alone feel much for them, and it doesn't help that they have less chemistry with one another than with other characters: he with his straying wife, and she with the king of France (Rickman). A Little Chaos only comes completely alive in one scene, where the court ladies loosen their stays away from the men they must please. It is pleasant and touching to see Winslet and Rickman acting together again, but the story, let alone the love is just not there.
