The conclusion of the Giver Quartet begins back in the community first seen in The Giver, shortly before Jonas is chosen to be the Receiver of Memory. The book focuses on Claire, a birthmother in her community, who decides to track down her son. Claire runs away to a village by the sea, where she appears one day without any memories. Outside her restrictive community, she starts to see colors and works to become strong. Claire is willing to do anything to find her son, and her journey takes her to the wider world outside her community and brings back numerous characters from the previous three books. It’s a beautiful conclusion to a story that Lois Lowry began decades before.
