a Sequel to "Eight Cousins"

A lesser sequel to the lively _8 Cousins_. Alcott can't resist using the Campbells to voice her own religious and moral views: Rose spends 2 years in Paris without succumbing to the temptations of a fashionable dress, uplifting the undeserving poor is a necessary but fatiguing occupation, and bigoted great-aunts must be appeased for the sake of "family harmony" at the expense of personal happiness. Nor do we escape that Alcott staple: a tragic early death provides timely lessons about the True Meaning of Life. Still despite the glurge factor, there is plenty of humor and romance, and fans of Rose and Phebe will be happy with the denouement.
