This is the story of the Wemmicks, puppets who live in Wemmicksville, who--especially some of them--enjoy giving out gold stars and grey dots to those they deem worthy. With shades of Suess's "The Sneeches" and also Pinocchio, but without imitating either, this is a fresh classic for kids of all ages. Based on the bestseller by Max Lucado, "You Are Special." This story reminds me of the life of Eric Liddell, who was willing to give up a gold medal for the sake of something higher ("Eric Liddell: Champion of Conviction" animated plus documentary DVD, "Chariots of Fire" movie). It also reminds me of the computer-animated "Larry Boy and the Rumor Weed" (Veggie Tales) because those who give out stars and dots also tend to be "rumor weeds." "You Are Special" tells about human nature and how to deal with it, and where our value comes from.
