It touches on what can we draw from our place on the family tree. What of our 1.8% difference of other chimps sets us apart. It illustrates beautifully this notion that we are a superior species to the others as illogical. It parallels us to the other species, what do they do better than us. What makes us different, and what of this difference has lead us astray in environmental damages, and what can we do to use our intelligence to fix the damages we have done and to improve as a species as a whole, It is a excellent fusing of anthropology and evolutionary biology.

The first of the trilogy that also comprises "Guns, Germs and Steel" and "Collapse"; racy style, as in all of Diamond's writing, that allows you to read sophisticated science like a thriller - and learn everything you need to know about the world at the same time!

Diamond is an experienced author who builds his supporting arguments and lists his contributory evidence with vigor and authority. He occasionally writes the sensational tidbit with intent to shock and break apart previous notions of is human only behavior.
