Great romance and sex-Victorian-historical horror fantasy read for those so inclined.

The best of the series, in my opinion. Once you've made it to this title, you can feel free to leave the others. Ms. Rice's great ability to put you in the place and time she's describing is also her greatest weakness. Without out strong editors her books go on and on and on.....

Some characters seemed superfluous and the multiple subplots did not mesh all too well with the main storyline.
