I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I am not much into films but maybe I will try more! I loved the magic in this film and the awkward romance and the common feeling of being obsessed with some person that you think will solve everything. There are bits of weirdness and the ending was so satisfying. I do enjoy Al Pacino but I totally got into the character he created and if I met him dressed like that I would ask him to rekey my lock! He was so believable. I have never commented before and I don't now how to add stars. If you live in Austin the scenery is a hoot.

Rated 1/10. Confusing, bizarre, and just plain weird. Absolutely cannot even recommend if you're bored.

I wish holly hunter had a bigger part written for her. her scenes with al are a wonder of fabulous acting. we expect that excellence, by now, from al, and we get it. the white cat mostly ignores the camera, and eats or not eats, on cue. if al had shaved, it would not have been as impressive a characterization. if you can relax, and savor slow pacing, I recommend this film, as a character study.

If you are looking for a classic Hollywood movie this is not for you. If like the slow unveiling of a character that is complicated, unhealthy and at a very deep level still a good person, then you may enjoy this. Loaded with symbolism, this was fascinating to me as I watched it and even more so after viewing it as connections became clear and puzzles solved. Loaded with whimsical details I found it rather charming. My husband hated it, he did not like the main character; too dysfunctional for his tastes.
Mime Warning: a mime appears several times through out this film.

Director David Gordon Green, director of tiny, tiny indie films - Most people have never heard of him or seen any of his films – until maybe the 2014 film Joe, starring Nicolas Cage. While I thought that Joe was excellent, I thought that Manglehorn was a little slow in the first half. Manglehorn was partially redeemed by Holly Hunter’s slow internal nearly imperceptible heartbreaking realization that Manglehorn was only interested in a miracle that would reunite him with his long lost love.

I could not become engaged by this film at all.

Boring. Visually not inspiring either. No great drama or characters. Plus an unnecessarily graphic surgery of a cat inserted for no real reason. Had to fast forward most of the film, stopping here and there to see if there would be any point to it.
