In this fascinating and illuminating work, Leonard Mlodinow guides us through the critical eras and events in the development of science, all of which, he demonstrates, were propelled forward by humankind's collective struggle to know. Mlodinow profiles some of the great philosophers, scientists, and thinkers who explored these questions - Aristotle, Galileo, Newton, Darwin, Einstein and Lavoisier among them - and makes clear that just as science has played a key role in shaping the patterns of human thought, human subjectivity has played a key role in the evolution of science.

I liked Harari's Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind much better.

The subtitle of this book, "The Human Journey from Living in trees to Understanding the Cosmos," perhaps sums up the book. This book deals with archeology, anthropology, Physics - classical and Quantum, - Chemistry and Biology. It does so in as easy and conversational a way as possible given the complexity of the subject matter. Even so, Mlodinov himself says, if it all sounds horribly complicated it is because it is! At the end of this journey, i was left with an appreciation of the human mind and the mechanics of scientific inquiry, more than anything else. If you are of a curious bent of mind or if you just want to understand how you arrived where you are, this is the book for you.

Leonard Mlodinow, wrote for the television series MacGyver and Star Trek: The Next Generation, and provides the endeavors of the giants of science in a down-to-earth rapid rhapsody that is accurate & entertaining to anyone who enjoys mixing adventure and science. If science teachers would get excited we all might have absorbed a lasting science appreciation. Highly recommended for dreamers of all ages.
