What is boredom and where does it come from? Despite its satirical tone and entertaining use of reenactment, Boredom offers some serious food for thought on the evolution of boredom, education and the younger generation and our relationship with new technologies. Once thought to be state of mental inactivity, new studies say boredom is more likely a state of hidden anxiety. In fact new medical evidence suggests boredom causes surges of the stress hormone, cortisol in the blood. Excessive cortisol disrupts concentration, causes premature aging and is related to heart disease. New research currently exclusive to this documentary indicates boredom impedes learning and may in fact be a state of stress.

I was surprisingly NOT bored whilst watching this movie. It gives a compelling insight into boredom, the human mind, etc...but it lacks in giving a resolution to that boredom - at least I think so.

I thought that the subject was very interesting. What I didn't particularly care for was the presentation. It almost had a tabloid like production to it. Would be nice to see a more academic iteration done by say Nova or National Geographic. But as there isn't really any other documentaries on the subject, you might as well watch this one.

What is the ultimate Boring Institute? They are all around us: schools and universities. Education in general it is concluded is one of the major sources of boredom. Although I believe learning is a two-way street in which students play a role, I do agree that education methods need to be dramatically re-thought.
