The Undeclared War Against the Middle Class--and What We Can Do About It

Our founding fathers worked hard to ensure that a small group of wealthy people would never dominate this country. Thomas Jefferson believed that our very democracy depends upon our ability to play referee to the game of business, protecting labor and the public good. But over the last twenty-five years, we've witnessed an undeclared war against the middle class. The so-called conservatives waging this war are interested only in conserving and increasing their own wealth and power. Under the guise of freeing the market, they have dismantled programs set up to protect the middle class and replaced them with policies that favor only the privileged few. To keep America strong, we must ensure that our public institutions meet people's basic needs for education, health care, and a living wage before our democracy becomes a "corporatocracy."

If social comedian, George Carlin, were alive today, he would be skewering the likes of fraudster Thom Hartmann, who makes money from writing these books, but redirects the citizenry away from the real solutions. Calling your congress crooks won't help, involving yourself in their system they own and control, won't help. I once read a description by a commenter of Hartmann, "the poster boy of cognitive dissonance" - - the perfect epithet! The most obscene and despicable interviews I head from Hartmann were with Peter G. Peterson (Hartmann sounded like he was in love with him) and Kevin Philips, although the interview with the honorable Abraham Bolden, first Black-American member of the presidential Secret Service bodyguard detail, was truly bizarre, with Mr. Bolden explaining that elements within the CIA and government were involved with the murder of President Kennedy, and Hartmann trying to sell his book claiming the Mafia was responsible for every assassination from the beginning of time?
