This book is the fourth of a series. As a story, it's a stand-alone. However, some portions of Louise Rick's personality and history could have used some more background. Perhaps these "missing" bits are in the previous books?
Events were often jumpy and uneven. There were unnecessary scenes of unnecessary details that had nothing to do with the mystery. There were scenes that jumped ahead and could have used an additional detail or smoother segue into the next scene.
Too many irrelevant details and characters. It made the story seem drawn out and irrelevant.
Not my cup of tea.
Despite many positive reviews, I must differ. I found the plot overly drawn out with an excessive amount of irrelevant information. The relationship with Eik came out of nowhere and had no real substance other than a one-night stand. Painful to read and an ending that could be anticipated. Would definitely not recommend this book to anyone.
good book keep me wanting to read more and more beside the names that weren't easy to pronounce good book
Louise Rick, #7; Missing Persons Trilogy #1)
Excellent, fast-paced whodunit with fascinating historic links to the murder mystery. I definitely recommend this novel and will have a look for other books by this author.
Very good Scandinavian thriller/mystery/police procedural. This is the first I've read by this author so I don't know the backstory on the main character but I liked this book enough that I may go back and find out. Louise Rick has just joined a new department and has a new partner. Rather than homicide, the new department is about missing persons. When an unidentified body turns up in the woods, Louise and Eik find themselves embroiled in fake deaths, rape, murder and cover-ups. All-in-all a very good story.
Louise Rick is beginning a new job after being in homicide for years. Missing persons can lead to murder investigations and she is the ideal candidate for this new position. The story of missing twins, murder and mental institutions is a good framework but the execution leaves a bit to be desired. Some of the problem may have been the translation. Some of the vocabulary did not seem to fit the image of Rick that I thought the author was trying to build. I found the story flat and the personal bits about Rick confusing and sometimes intrusive into the flow of the narrative. The sudden dalliance with her new partner did not ring true at all for me. I kept reading to the end, though, to find out if my own suspicions about what actually happened were correct. Yes, I was right.
Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Very fast read. The author had me interested from page one, a real page turner. Will definitely read her other books.
Given this book was original wrote in another language the names were a bit hard to pronounce at times and got distracting. But once you get past that this book was really good. But now I need her to write another cuz I wanna know what really happened with Klaus.
