Robert McCammon's first contemporary novel in nearly two decades, The Five tells the story of an eponymous rock band struggling to survive on the margins of the music business. As they move through the American Southwest on what might be their final tour together, the band members come to the attention of a damaged Iraq war veteran, and their lives are changed forever. This is a riveting account of violence, terror, and pursuit set against a credible, immensely detailed rock and roll backdrop. It is also a moving meditation on loyalty and friendship. Written withwit, elegance, and passionate conviction, The Five reaffirms McCammon's position as one of the finest, most unpredictable storytellers of our time.

McCammon is such a great writer. This is the story about a struggling rock band on what looks to be their last tour. Going through the southwest they meet a disturbed war veteran who is obsessed with the band. He begins to hunt the band members one at a time.
I did wonder if the author had actual experience in a band. I like his earlier works better, but it was OK.

Great rock novel, but not McCammon at his best. However, I'm still waiting for him to top Swan Song. No new territory covered here, really, but a good read.

A struggling rock band just trying to make enough to get by being hunted by a marine sniper that is slowly going insane...what's not to like here?
