When Maple is tiny, her parents plant a maple tree in her honor. She and her tree grow up together, and even though a tree doesn't always make an ideal playmate, it doesn't mind when Maple is in the mood to be loud - which is often. Then Maple becomes a big sister, and finds that babies have their loud days, too. Fortunately, Maple and her beloved tree know just what the baby needs. Lori Nichols' enchanting debut features an irresistible, free-spirited, little girl who greets the changing seasons and a new sibling with arms wide open.

Sweet story and a little unique, although I knew it was going to be a maple tree and her sister too I thought it was lovely for a young kid. My 4 year old liked it and we got to talk about how trees have different types and species.

Just before Maple is born, her parents plant a little sapling. As Maple grows, so does the tree, and each has something to share: Maple sings to her tree and shares her jacket in the cold weather, while the tree provides shelter and shade. On breezy days, they can even dance together! Girl and tree are happy just as they are, but change is on the horizon -- a willow sapling has appeared, signaling the arrival of Maple's new baby sister. Fans of this sweet "arboreal homage" (Kirkus Reviews) won't want to miss the sequels, Maple and Willow Together and Maple and Willow Apart.

A lovely story about a girl named Maple and her special tree. A baby sister is added to the family, along with her own special tree.

A very sweet story that includes a surprise and a very satisfying ending. Suggested for preschool through kindergarten.
