Three stars for the scenery. I watched this with 3 intelligent pre-teens, all horse lovers. They were bored with the first half and couldn't quite figure out the story line. For a western made in the 1980's, it's dated, overacted, and simplistic.

Plain and simply an uplifting wholesome wonderful movie that I've loved ever since I first saw it so long ago. The score is beautiful, as is the romance, the scenery, and the green eyed beauty Sigrid Thornton. You can't help but root for the resilient young protagonist, played by Tom Burlinson, who delivers a memorable performance. And the great Kirk Douglas in a dual role, to boot -- Terrific movie.

Beautiful story, non-pretentious--as are many productions--very well acted, great story. My husband and I loved it. In short, worth watching. (Be sure to watch the sequell: "Return to Snowy River.")

My husband likes this movie but my son and I found it rather boring.
