In 1987, John Robbins published Diet for a New America, which was an early version of this book, and he started the food revolution. He continues to work tirelessly to promote conscious food choices more than 20 years later. First published in 2001, The Food Revolution is still one of the most frequently cited and talked about books of the food-politics revolution. It was one of the very first books to discuss the negative health effects of eating genetically modified foods and animal products of all kinds, to expose the dangers inherent in our factory farming system, and to advocate a complete plant-based diet.

This book is packed with scientific studies and incredible information. After I read this, it inspired me to do more research and found many other books, doctors and studies saying the same thing. It was the beginning of a journey to health for me. John Robbins is an excellent writer and his books are enjoyable to read as well as learn from. I also recommend his book, "Healthy at 100".

This book changed my life when I read it in 2004. I had been vegetarian for 7 years, but this well-written, thoroughly researched book convinced me to go vegan, which I did the day I finished reading. Robbins is a very persuasive writer, and everything I have experienced and learned since becoming vegan has borne out his ideas.

The author, John Robbins comes across as a gentle, thoughtful, loving human being. He presents information in an organized fashion but with such heart! I will probably read everything he has written as I find his writing style and the subject matter so compelling.

A great easy read. A well written presentation of the major arguments for vegetarian/vegan diet. Though most of the general arguments were not new to me, it was eye-opening to read for the fact were well documented and presented well for maximum impact. It has again renewed me drive to remove meat, especially beef, from my daily diet. My main compliant was that it often sounded preachy and like a self-help motivational book. Nonetheless I give it highest recommendation.

very dry due to all the information but very good. the pictures help make it more real after reading so much information. needed something to get me going on my new vegetarian lifestyle three years ago and this definitely helped.

Some interesting facts, such as comparing the Zone diet to what the FDA recommends in terms of calories and content. For example, the zone (A VLCD or very low calorie diet) forbids carrots, but allows snickers and ice cream provided they accompany cottage cheese. I had to laugh at that one!

A great informative book! A must-read for anyone who cares about the food they eat and the world they live in. I highly recommend this book. Everyone in the US should read this. I also recommend another excellent book - Jane Goodall's book on food
