"Man, one stick of dynamite would do it." OVER THE EDGE tells the story of teenage rebellion set in a suburban wasteland. The soundtrack is heavy with Cheap Trick. This is the way the world looked if you grew up in California in the '70s. Yes, it is a pubescent male fantasy, but it will give you a few laughs, and, if you are like me, someone who lived through that era, it will inspire a Proustian cascade of memory.

Matt Dillon was the major point of this movie. It had an interesting concept, and it looked to be a promising movie. Unfortunately though the movie did not meet my expectations, as this teenage rebellion was crushed by the authorities. Really the only thing that made it worthwhile was being able to look at Matt Dillon. Could have been so much better if it hadn't become submissive once more.

It was a pretty good movie. Overall though, only three things really stand out- 1. The rebellion, 2. Matt Dillon's drop dead fourteen year old looks, and 3. The fact that the ending sort of chopped off. There wasn't much of a resolution. So, basically, if Matt wasn't in this movie, I doubt I would've been able to finish it.

Reminded me a lot of the BILLY JACK series of films from the 70's, in terms of mood and tempo - but without the martial arts. Pity that, because, outside of a terrific look at MATT DILLON as a very young teen (15) this movie is pretty much a 'paper tiger' in terms of getting a real feel for the social and political unrest of that era. Interesting comment, though, about the urge in those days for moving to the 'burbs'! We know now, all too late - that the suburbs turned into 'inner-city living' all too quickly - the very thing people were trying to escape in the first place!
