While centurions Macro and Cato are returning to Rome from a harrowing campaign against the Parthians, their transport ship is almost capsized by a tidal wave. They barely make it to the port of Matala in Crete where they are stunned to find a devastated town. An earthquake has struck the island, destroying its cities and killing thousands.

You will fight like a lion to krrp those rebel bastards out of the city, and if need be you will die like a bloody hero, sword in hand, spitting curses into your enemy's face.

A soldier should never let himself get too involved with the fairer sex. It unmans him and preoccupies his mind when it should be focused on other things.

Extremely fast paced, keeps you reading and you don't want to put it down. Parts are a little grosser than his previous books. But then it is during a war time for Rome.
