I loved Caroline B. Cooney ever since "The Face on the Milk Carton" (A great book, go read it)! I decided I would try this book to see if I liked her other stuff. And it turns out I do. This book was an amazing mystery, and even though I figured out some of the whodunit, it was still a great book and I recommend this book for everyone!

"If the Witness Lied" by Caroline B. Cooney is a suspense-filled, hooking read that'll keep readers on their toes. Typically, a murder mystery, such as the one endured in the story by the Fountain children, is solved by the voice of a reliable witness. However, Jack, Smithy and Madison Fountain soon uncover clues that lead to one question: “What if the witness lied?”
The one thing I did not like too much about this book was the fact that even though the plot was fast paced, there were slow moments that put me to sleep. Like, there would be loads of action and drama going on in a scene and suddenly, everything stops for a moment and it’s just mediocre dialogue. In order to get back to the action, a reader would have to read through the boring scenes. Perhaps if the author paced the novel better, it would seem more balanced out and enjoyable to read, all the way through.
However, the plot twists and dramatic moments are enough to capture a reader instantly, and the emotional, but well-written plot-line is exciting, and the heartfelt ending is one that's sure to satisfy. Cooney’s writing style is formal and written in third person, which is surprisingly uncommon when looking at the majority of young adult novels available to teens these days..This adds something new and interesting to the novel. There are also several emotional, family-oriented moments in the book that are sure to touch the hearts of readers. The characters are crafty, rebellious and easy to relate to "If the Witness Lied" is a book you'll remember, and keep thinking about, even when the story is over.
