I love this book for it's relatable and textured nature. It seems to have some restraint in keeping it to the original vampire lore, which is something I can appreciate. Zoe and Simon are likable characters. They both have their troubles, meaning they have their priorities straight unlike most teen fiction where the female protagonist obsesses over that cute boy. It's a simple, easy read, yet is complex in execution, like there's so much to it than what's written. The ending is as they say- bittersweet. But it's understandable given Simon's morals when he's unwilling to turn Zoe's mother (his explanation for that was also quite realistic given what you watch on True Blood). The ending also doesn't pander to it's audience with "the happy ending" and the boy/girl vampire relationship. It's true romance at it's best.

It was very well written but I was hoping for a HAPPIER ending.
