This is a very dense biography, which tells the entire story of Livingstone -- warts and all. It is especially interesting to learn his own motivations and flaws, how he was viewed during his lifetime and how his meeting with Stanley changed public perception. Although he did not accomplish what he set out to do, and was deeply flawed, he was a great explorer and abolitionist and had a very important impact upon the history of Africa.
