I love "Real Simple" the magazine, but I was a bit disappointed with this book. I supposed if you aren't sure what you might need for your home, the items outlined in "The Basics" section of each room (chapter) would be helpful. However, I feel as though they are assuming everyone lives in a large home with an abundance of space. For example, one of the basics listed for the bedroom is an Upholstered Chair. They admit it's not a necessity, but not everyone has the space in their bedroom to add a chair. I also found the laundry information dated as they make on mention of HE washers and dryers.
I thought it was going to be more of a "how to instructional guide" to storage solutions and seemed to be more of an "interior decorating" book.
Great ideas in here and some that will be useful. Wish they had some visual ideas about the specific room. Also felt like it was kind of geared toward one house, for example, they talked about the foyer and gave suggestions but as if everyone's foyer is designed the same. Definately, there a few ideas that will work for us and some maybe have to incorporate our own ideas based on the room design. But overall has some good basic ideas, I do love "Real Simple" full of ideas and a lot of great ones
I ended up buying this book online as I think it serves as a great reference if you are generally trying to get your home organized.
It was o.k. Pretty basic info about what furniture each room in a house should have. Nothing new and nothing inspiring. Very basic.
