There are a few parts of this book that are useful, mainly the section on psychology, the survival mindset, but the rest of it is more of a list than a teaching guide. There's too much telling of what can be done and far too little detail on how to actually do it. In far too many cases it refers to items that a traveler will not have on hand because no one carries such cumbersome things on hike. There are many far better books out there. In spite of the inclusions from military texts and other good sources, this seems to be little more than a part of the product line spun off of the TV series.
