I enjoyed it because I really adore Alberich. But the problem with writing backstory is that we already know what's going to happen. And bluntly, this is Lackey creating a love story for herself (Myste) and Alberich. Really a rather poor "Mary Sue" work and unworthy of an experienced author. While it's nice Alberich has a love interest, what happened between them? Because by "Arrows of the Queen" they don't appear to even know each other.

Though I did love this book, I did not find it as captivating as its prequel. It was, however, a very entertaining read. It focuses a lot more on the politics of the country than the previous book, which could appeal to some.
Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book--more than once I may add.
