I could not help but think the people who have read this and not loved it must have read a different book with the same title. This is quite possibly the best novel I have ever read. The lead female character is very strong, not the usual screamer or damsel-in-distress one usually find in badly-written fiction, and the story is quite possibly the most interesting combination of secret societies/stolen works of arts (the Amber Room, look it up...) and daring do's ever. It is ***not*** Dan Brown territory, no, this is well-written and interesting and clever. The first book by Steve Berry, it is also, with THE ROMANOV PROPHECY, his second book, his best book. This is an author who takes history very seriously and who doesn't build up outlandish and ridiculous tales a la Da Vinci's Code. If you like historical fiction, good ones, with awesome characters, great villains, books who will intrigue you enough to look up more of the real stories Berry's books are about, this is for you. The James Bond comparaison, as written by some reviewers, probably concerns one of the character from several of Berry's recent books (but he is not in this one...), a former American agent, now retired and operating a used bookstore in Copehagen, Cotton Malone, who's past always end up resurfacing... In fact, one of my favorite quote ever is spoken by Malone, he says "Booksellers don't kill people"... ahahahah...

Yes, the plot is unbelievable-like a James Bond or Indiana Jones or Dan Brown book. But's it's a fun read and an interesting subject. The author has taken time to do his homework so the historical facts are pretty accurate.

Didn't like it very much. The plot was way too unbelievable
